At the 1960 Academy Awards
Robert Vaughn was nominated for
Best Supporting Actor
for his role as Chester "Chet" Gwyn in the film
"The Young Philadelphians"

Chet is an alcoholic who drinks to forget a traumatic event in his life. Then to make things worse, young Chet loses an arm during the Korean War.

When the drunken Chet is accused of murdering his uncle he asked best friend Tony (played by Paul Newman) to be his lawyer and protect him from his parasitic relations.

Unfortunately, Robert Vaughn's wonderful performance
went unrewarded that year.

(YP 11) Begging Tony for his help.

Not bad for a character who was only a minor player in a film!

(Vaughn had 7th billing in the film credits)
